He captained Liverpool to the title after thirty years
Liverpool had not won the English league since 1990 when Henderson lifted the Premier League trophy as captain three decades later. It came one year after he had also captained them to the Champions League. He went on to lift the Club World Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups, building one of the most decorated captaincies in the club's history.

The Saudi move he never lived down
At Liverpool, Henderson wore the rainbow armband and spoke publicly in support of LGBTQ+ fans. Then he joined Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, where same-sex relationships are criminalised, and the contradiction overwhelmed every footballing argument for the move. His contract was terminated after six months; Ajax, Brentford and Chelsea followed, but the criticism never fully left.

He supports Sunderland and went to a final with them
Henderson came through Sunderland's academy and never stopped supporting the club after he left. While playing for Liverpool, he sat among Sunderland fans at the 2014 League Cup final and watched Manchester City beat them. More than a decade later he played at his fourth World Cup, won a bronze medal with England and joined Chelsea for free at 36.
