Colwill plays on the left of the back three. As the unit's only left-footer, he can receive facing forward and pass cleanly up that side. He also steps into midfield when Chelsea have settled possession.

The academy boy who decided the season
Chelsea reached the final day of 2024-25 needing a result at Nottingham Forest to secure Champions League football. Colwill scored the only goal and protected the lead that delivered fourth place. The player who settled the club's season had been walking into its academy since he was nine.

He tore his knee days after winning the Club World Cup
Only weeks after lifting the Club World Cup, Colwill tore his ACL in a non-contact training incident in August 2025. Surgery cost him almost the entire season. He returned for four matches in May, including the FA Cup final against Manchester City, but the celebration of one summer had already become the rehabilitation story of the next.

He played Sunday League with Jamal Musiala
Colwill and Jamal Musiala were teammates at about eight years old for the Sunday League side City Central. Both later entered Chelsea's academy, before Musiala left for Bayern Munich and became a German international. Long before Stamford Bridge and the Champions League, they shared an ordinary park pitch.
