Three years of his Chelsea career were spent injured
Fofana arrived at Chelsea having already fought back from a broken leg at Leicester. Then came a knee injury, suffered only 38 minutes after his first Chelsea goal, followed by an ACL tear that erased the entire 2023/24 season. For three years, every return seemed to lead into another rehabilitation.

He won the FA Cup at 20 and left in a public row
Leicester beat Chelsea in the 2021 FA Cup final with 20-year-old Fofana in defence, then named him their Young Player of the Season. A year later he was trying to join the club he had beaten. As the transfer dragged on, he accused Leicester of making “false and misleading” comments about him, turning a celebrated partnership into a public argument.

He wore a Palestinian flag on the Wembley pitch
After Leicester won the 2021 FA Cup, Fofana and teammate Hamza Choudhury walked across the Wembley pitch carrying a Palestinian flag. The gesture came during that year's fighting in Gaza and put a political message into the middle of the celebrations. Fofana is a practising Muslim from Marseille with Ivorian family roots.
