Benfica lost him over a bed
Benfica recruited Quenda from Damaiense and promised him a room at their academy campus. The room never appeared, so at thirteen he crossed Lisbon and joined Sporting, Benfica's fiercest rivals. Sporting developed him into one of Europe's most valuable teenagers before Chelsea paid £40m.

Young Player of the Season in Portugal at seventeen
Quenda was named Portugal's Young Player of the Season at seventeen, then helped Sporting win both the league and cup. At international level, he made the team of the tournament at the European Championships for both the under-17s and under-21s. Chelsea agreed to buy him in 2025 and still left him in Lisbon for another year to develop.

From Guinea-Bissau to Amadora
Quenda was born in Guinea-Bissau and moved to Portugal as a child. His football began with the under-10s at Damaiense in Amadora, on the edge of Lisbon, far from the grand academies that later fought over him. By the time he reached Sporting's under-17s, he was scoring twenty goals in a season.
